Alexander Girard PLYprints now available

Alexander Girard (1907 – 1993) created iconic mid-century modern designs for such companies as Herman Miller and Braniff International Airways. His work married the timeless lines of the modern with the playfulness and bold color of Latin American folk art.

For the first time since 1972 these graphics are now available as wall art.

Each graphic panel features an iconic Alexander Girard image hand screen-printed on an American made sustainably-harvested maple plywood panel. PLYprints include all mounting hardware and have a spacer on the back that allows the panel to float off the wall.

The vibrant artworks mix bold colors with the deep textures of the real wood veneers. The wood panels are formaldehyde-free to create a safe and green wood based product for your home.

Charley Harper books at Castor and Pollux

So exciting!!! We have received a very exciting parcel from the lovely people at Ammo books. Charley Harper is beloved for his delightful, graphic and often humorous illustrations of nature, animals, insects and people. Charley liked to say that when he paints a bird, he doesn’t count all the feathers in the wings – he just counts the wings. Minimal realism, he called it, and his unique and precise style continues to resonate and inspire his admirers.

Particularly wonderful is Charley Harper – An Illustrated Life which showcases illustrations that appeared from 1950-1975 in the Ford Times magazines, as well as in books such as the beloved “The Giant Golden Book of Biology” in 1961, “Betty Crocker’s Dinner for Two” in 1961, and “ The Animal Kingdom” in 1968, among many others. Charley’s work has never before been published in one complete retrospective.

Becky Blair – Exhibition images

For this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival exhibiton, Castor and Pollux have shown local artist Becky Blair. Her giclee and screen prints have always been popular here, and we were very excited about the canvases which have joined them in the gallery. Always bright and colourful, Becky’s exhibition is the best way to start the Spring. ay paintings we haven’t sold are going to Australia for her next exhibition there. If you see a painting here, that is no longer is the gallery, we still may be able to get it for you. Just get in touch.

‘None of my paintings are planned.  They appear organically through a web of under-painting.  Lacy pools of watery paint, applied layer upon layer, provide the groundwork for my landscapes and people to appear.   I aspire to imagery that’s fleeting and momentary and has the potential to be poignant.  To retain some mystery, and have gaps for the viewer to explore with their own imagination.

Becky’s paintings are now being shown in Australia and so are no longer at the gallery. If you are interested in any, please get in touch as we can fine out if they are still available.
