Charley Harper – restocked!!

After a few months of lamenting the end of our Summer show, we have managed to get a few more Charley Harper originals. There are only a few, due to their rarity, so it’s first come, first served for purchases.

Please note:

Images supplied are not accurate for colour – the actual prints are usually much brighter.

The vintage prints are at least forty years old and have not been stored in an ideal conservation environment. Deteriation of paper stock is inevitable and some minimal foxing around the edges of some of the prints is evident. Some have small scuff marks. The prints, however, are bright and crisp due to the fact that Charley Harper used white ink for the white areas.

Prints should be inspected before purchase, and are sold ‘as seen’ and we will not be able to reserve and request full payment at the time of purchase.

All prints sold framed are done so using acid-free conservation materials. Some are available to buy unframed.

The more recent prints are signed and numbered, and have been made in a commercial printshop, earlier ones were printed by Charley Harper and tend to be stamped with a facsimilie of Charley Harper’s signature and the words ‘© The Estate of Charley Harper’.

The prices reflect rareity/popularity.

Charley Harper did not make an inventory of the vintage prints, or number them. It is thought that there were no more that 100 printed of each, and that the prints with fine lines are rarer, due to ink drying in the lines quicker, making printing more difficult.

Sanna Annukka joins Castor and Pollux

We asked her very nicely, and pestered her a little, but it paid off with Sanna Annukka delivering a couple of her prints to Castor and Pollux! We have two so far, sitting alongside her cards, and hope there will be more in the future.

New Gary Goodman screen prints

We have been told by our lovely friends at Artizan that they had a lovely time making these three prints with Mr. Goodman.

Seen as a write, poet and painter of dark, emotional imagery, this recent work appears lighter, brighter, with more humour.

Julia Trigg poster

Julia Trigg is a local graphic designer who makes digital collages using all kinds of typography.  Her artwork reflects a love of paper ephemera and often uses found printed matter in her compositions.

This means there is no end to the experimentation with colour, composition, scale and texture. She creates lively, graphic pieces using ham radio cards from the 1920s, wood block type and hand written messages, stamps and envelopes, postcards and letters.

Masking tape from Japan

A favourite of design blogs for a little while, Japanese masking tape hasn’t really been available outside Japan until recently. We aren’t sure, but Castor and Pollux could be the first stockist in Brighton/the South coast …

Each roll of pretty Japanese masking tape is 15 mm (about 1/2″) wide x 15 m (about 50′) long made of japanese washi paper. perfect for decorating packages, gift wrapping and scrapbooks.

We have sets of three, six and ten in gorgeous colours. Much wrapping fun to be had!!

These lights from Cable & Cotton – a local Hove firm – have been flying out of the shop … they come in lots of colourways and cost £34.95 for a 35 lamp set. The best thing about them is that they look great switched on or off!
